Spaceships at Timewarp Music (March 22, 2013)

Spaceships at Timewarp Music (March 22, 2013)

Maybe it’s because I just finished reading Into the Wild, but If I were to compare garage-punk duo Spaceships sound to say mountains, it would probably be something like the mountains of Mordor—spewing fire and brimstone and appearing all hard and dangerous on the outside, while concurrently possessing an unexplained, irresistible attraction and a warm and gooey inside....
Ocelot Robot at Timewarp Music (January 27, 2012)

Ocelot Robot at Timewarp Music (January 27, 2012)

Yes, it’s been a while. You can expect more. For now, here’s some Ocelot Robot for you. Their next show is going to be at Tommy’s Place (USC) July 5th. Come down and hang.
Insects vs Robots and Ahkiyyini at Del Monte Speakeasy (December 1, 2011)

Insects vs Robots and Ahkiyyini at Del Monte Speakeasy (December 1, 2011)

After over a year-long hiatus, Venice supergroup Insects vs Robots resurfaced at the historic Del Monte Speakeasy with new EP in tow. Also performing were psychedelic (and prolific) rockers, Ahkiyyini, and Li Daiguo whose solo performance was a mix of traditional Chinese music,  Mongolian throat singing and beat box. Really.
First Aid Kit at the Troubadour (November 8, 2011)

First Aid Kit at the Troubadour (November 8, 2011)

First Aid Kit are lead by two incredibly talented sisters, Johanna and Klara, who are the core of this folk-inspired group from Sweden. Though the songs on their albums are thick with lots layers of vocals and instruments, the live set is more raw, powerful, and in my opinion more … groovy. It’s easy to get...
Summer 2011 Live on the Westside Round-up

Summer 2011 Live on the Westside Round-up

What an amazing Summer for live music here on the Westside. So many shows, I’m sure there are so many great ones that I didn’t get to go to. This post rounds-up some of my favorite ones that I had the privilege to experience and shoot:
The Shrine at the Del Monte Speakeasy (June 23, 2011)

The Shrine at the Del Monte Speakeasy (June 23, 2011)

The Shrine, ’nuff said! This band rocks out at full speed and at 110% all of the time. Words to describe the show, frenetic, chaotic, sweaty, oh, and LOUD. Incredible. [Listen]
Ocelot Robot and The Diablo Rojo Experience at Good Hurt (July 27, 2011)

Ocelot Robot and The Diablo Rojo Experience at Good Hurt (July 27, 2011)

It’s been a while since these guys made an appearance on the Westside and none too soon as I had things to attend to on the Atlantic side of the country. Ocelot Robot always puts on a rockin’ show and their stage antics make for great photo ops.
Pocket Jones at Revival (June 3, 2011)

Pocket Jones at Revival (June 3, 2011)

Pocket Jones may be a new band, but they perform like veterans. Their blend of indie/country/folk/rock music and lead singer Šara’s soulful vocals blend into a perfect combination rhythms, melodies and harmonies that are as warm and smooth as a 20-year-old scotch.
The Stronghold Presents: Il Gato at Timewarp Music (March 25, 2011)

The Stronghold Presents: Il Gato at Timewarp Music (March 25, 2011)

Il Gato at Timewarp Music March 25, 2011 At any Stronghold Presents showcase you can always expect great musicians with suburb songwriting and that great ol’ Americana vibe. This show was certainly no exception. Bay Area based Il Gato, on their way home from a month long stint on the road, beginning in Oakland, through...
